Theology and Spirituality - chalk and cheese?

Posted Thursday 15 October 2009

The series, run jointly by the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Glasgow and the Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway, is now well underway, attracting a group of between eight and a dozen participants each time. Sessions are relaxed and convivial occasions combining theological input and discussion over a glass or two of wine, beginning at 5.30pm and lasting until 7pm.

The next Seminar, on Thursday October 22nd, takes the form of a group discussion on the interplay between theology and spirituality. This follows on from the Revd Dr Scott Robertson’s fascinating and scholarly paper on ‘Impractical Theology’ which occasioned much lively discussion. The final speaker in this term, on Thursday November 26th, will be the Revd Dr Ian Meredith whose topic is “Were all Episcopalians Jacobites in the 17th and 18th centuries?”

These seminars are opportunities for clergy and laity in the Diocese to share their expertise and areas of theological interest, both as seminar leaders and as group participants, and to be inspired into fresh thought and reading by others’ theological passions.

Meetings are held in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Number 4 The Square, University of Glasgow G12 8QQ. All are most welcome at any of these events. Should you wish further information, please contact either the Revd Dr Scott Robertson or Anne Tomlinson, Ministry Development Officer, via the Diocesan Office 0141 221 5720
