In his role as Convener of the Church in Society Committee of the Scottish Episcopal Church the Revd Ian Barcroft has written to the Prime Minister urging the Government to reconsider its decision to proceed with a Trident replacement.
The Revd Barcroft, who is Rector of St Mary’s, Hamilton, says in the letter, “It is very difficult to defend the possession of weapons of mass destruction with a conditional intent to use them in terms of traditional Christian teaching.”
The letter has been endorsed by the College of Bishops, who themselves have written to Gordon Brown in support of the concerns expressed by the Revd Ian Barcroft.
The full story and a copy of the letter can be read on the Provincial website.
