SEC scientists speak about their faith

Posted Wednesday 1 July 2009

Real Scientists, Real Faith: 17 Leading Scientists Reveal the Harmony Between Their Science and Their Faith edited by R.J. (Sam) Berry contains chapters by Professors Ian Arbon and Wilson Poon.

Ian is visiting Professor in Alternative Energy Systems at Newcastle University and Wilson is Professor of Condensed Matter Physics in the University of Edinburgh. Both are active members of their local SEC congregations, regularly preaching and leading worship, Ian in this Diocese, Wilson in the Diocese of Edinburgh.

Other contributors to the volume include Alister McGrath, molecular biologist and Professor of Theology, Ministry and Education at Kings’ College London, and Donald Mackay, neuroscientist and one-time Gifford Lecturer in the University of Glasgow.

Each chapter tackles two questions: what difference does the contributor’s faith make to his/her scientific practice and what effect does his/her practice of science have upon the living out of faith? The resulting submissions are challenging, informative and deeply personal.
