Popular Clergyman Moves to Glasgow & Galloway Parish

Posted Friday 11 January 2008

One of Tynedale’s best known clergymen will preach his last sermon in the district next weekend, the Hexham Courant reports.

The Rector of St John Lee, and vicar of Newbrough and Warden, the Rev Roger Cutler, is moving to Scotland after seven years in the area. He will become Rector of Kirkcudbright and Gatehouse of Fleet.

He said: “I didn’t apply for the position because I was very happy here, but I was approached, and found the new parish very similar to St John Lee.”

The new parish will mean he is closer to his daughter Vicky, who lives in Dumfries, and to the house he bought some time ago in Galloway.

During Mr Cutler’s time at St John Lee, the congregation has grown considerably, with an average attendance at each service a whisker under 50 people.
