Ordination of Kevin Francis

Posted Tuesday 27 September 2011

The last of the three Ordinations to the Diaconate has taken place in Glasgow University Memorial Chapel , that of Dr Kevin Francis. As the preacher, the Revd Stuart D MacQuarrie, said, Kevin has revivified the Anglican Chaplaincy of late in his capacity as Lay Anglican Chaplain, and is now set to take the work on even further as an ordained member of the Interfaith Chaplaincy Team.

The Liturgy was full of the most beautiful (and very carefully chosen) music, exquisitely sung by members of the Chapel Choir from the opening note of Stanford’s ‘Beati quorum via’ onwards. But especial mention must be made of the Post-Communion motet, a setting of Herbert’s The Call, composed for the occasion by Robin Downie, Emeritus Professor of Moral Philosophy at Glasgow University and Kevin’s former tutor and mentor. Music and words balanced each other perfectly; both the height of perfection.
