Membersof two Stewartry congregations begin a series of study meetings this month on becoming a mission-shaped church.
Kirkcudbright’s Greyfriars and St Mary’s in Gatehouse of Fleet will each have four evening sessions on the topic.
They’ll be led by Lesley Hamilton-Messer, the Kirk’s regional development officer. Lesley visited both churches last month to preach and get to know members ahead of the group study nights.
Rector Roger Cutler told members: “There is a tendency these days to automatically associate terms such as evangelism and church growth with pictures of big, lively (whatever that means) and usually evangelical churches.
“In fact we don’t have to be any of these to see effective evangelism and deep spiritual growth happen in our church.”
He added: “In today’s post-Christian and post-modern culture, evangelism and church growth are vital and very relevant forms of Christian mission. They are about searching for the searchers; helping those who believe without belonging to find a doorway in; and sharing truth and light with those who belong without believing.”
