Growing Together with the Mothers’ Union

Posted Monday 28 May 2007

The Mothers’ Union invited visitors from Rwanda and Kentucky to learn more about the Mothers’ Union in the Diocese, writes Hilary Moran. Trish Heywood, the retired Worldwide President, was there to welcome old friends of Josephine Rwaji and Consaltina from Rwanda.

Josephine was on the Mothers’ Union (MU) General Trustee board overseeing the worldwide work of the MU and Consaltina was a MU worker who has worked tirelessly to support families and children over many years.

The MU gave a presentation about their work and then Josephine spoke about life from the early days of the MU in 1960’s in Rwanda to the present day. Sheila Redwood our newly appointed Scottish President was also there and she told them she was on the Scottish Executive committee concerned with promoting links with Malawi which Glasgow & Galloway MU Diocese also has links with.

Our friends from Kentucky were interested to learn about our work and compared us a little to the women’s group in the Episcopal Church USA, Order of the Daughters of the King.

A lovely lunch was provided by the MU in Bishopbriggs, which was followed by a moving Eucharist led by Geoff Scobie.
