Faiths in Scotland Community Action Fund offers grants for faith groups

Posted Thursday 23 July 2009

The Revd Ian Barcroft of the Church in Society Action Group draws our attention to a new grant-making body with funds available to faith groups working against poverty.

At a ceremony to mark the launch of the Faiths in Scotland Community Action Fund at Dundee’s Discovery Point, fund convener, Sandra Carter announced a funding programme offering grants of up to £15,000 over three years which faith groups can use to develop anti-poverty projects which improve the quality of life in local communities.

Emphasising the significant contribution made by faith groups in community regeneration, Sandra Carter said: “All over Scotland many faith groups play a big part in making their communities better places to live. We want to see more of them involved in the struggle against poverty.  This new fund will encourage people to take small steps which can make a huge difference.”

FiSCAF – Faiths in Scotland Community Action Fund works with local groups in the struggle against poverty by providing grants and support for their initiatives in Scotland’s most fragile urban and rural communities.  It is an initiative of Faith in Community (Scotland), an anti-poverty organisation working with, and through, people of faith.

The Fund encourages applications from locally based faith groups in Scotland which wish to undertake practical action in response to community need, particularly in the economically poorest urban and rural communities.

Grants will be announced twice each year in June (deadline for applications end of April) and November (deadline for applications end of September).  In its first year of operation the Fund will award a sum of £150,000 and aims to grow this to £500,000 over the next four years.

For information about FiSCAF and details of their awards and who may apply, please visit the FiSCAF website:

The next round of awards takes place in November 2009 and applications for this must be received by 30 September.
