Diocesan Quiet Day for Advent 2011

Posted Monday 16 January 2012

The Diocesan Quiet Day for Advent was held on Saturday 10th December in two venues, at Holy Trinity & St Barnabas Paisley and at St Ninian’s Castle Douglas.
The weather was kinder to us this year - just wind and rain, but thankfully no snow.

Thirty people gathered in Paisley, where Bishop Gregor gave us a fascinating insight in to the very different lives of three great Anglicans - George Herbert, John Newton and George Bell.
Each of these reflections was followed by a period of silence .

The Eucharist was celebrated in the church, and this was followed by fellowship over lunch with warming soup, before returning to quiet mode for the last session.

We started and ended the day with Morning and Evening Prayer from the Prayer Book.

I believe we all left much refreshed after an inspiring day.

About twenty people at Castle Douglas enjoyed the Quiet Day led by Bishop Gordon Mursell, whose theme was: ‘Preparing for Christmas - Prayer in Advent’.

The Eucharist was celebrated by Canon David Bayne, and again, lunch was enhanced by contributions of home-made soup.
