Information about the churches’ work in the community.

Elevate

Elevate is a youth worship event at St James the Less, Bishopbriggs, which brings together young people from different churches around the Bishopbriggs area and beyond.

A typical night involves worship with the band – drums, guitar saxophone, flute and vocals, icebreaker activities, a speaker and munching into a range of cakes, doughnuts and other unhealthy food items as the kids from different churches get to know each other.

It aims to be challenging and get us all thinking about what we believe. For a small youth group like St James it is also a chance to see what church is like outside the Episcopal tradition and take some of what goes on back into our own all age worship, as well as recognising that some of the folk they meet in school also have faith and involvement with the church.

TICTACS

To Invest in Children To Assist the Community of Shettleston [] (St.Serfs)

This is an out of school care service established at St Serf’s, Shettleston, in January 1996. Since then approximately 250 children have used the project. Glasgow City Council’s Social Inclusion budget currently funds TICTACS and the Council receives an evaluation of the project every six months. A voluntary management committee made up of parents and church members manages the service.

TICTACS takes primary aged children attending Eastbank, Wellshot and St. Paul’s RC schools. Parents must reside within the catchment areas of Shettleston, Tollcross, Braidfauld and surrounding environs. During school holidays the service is extended, where possible, to parents out with the designated schools thus maximising the service provided to the wider community. All staff are employed by the service, have received first aid training and must have enhanced disclosures. In-service training takes place regularly.

The children are collected and supervised from their schools to the church by TICTACS staff. When all the children arrive they receive a snack. After ‘snack’ the children are free to choose from a wide variety of activities aimed to stimulate and educate them. Homework support is given when needed
